Welcome Aboard, Mister Spock
During my hiatus on this site, I was working on a project for my Digital Collections and Curation class in my major.
The site is called Navis Pinacothece.
My goal with the site was to create a one stop place on the internet for all of the artwork that has been displayed in the Star Trek Ships of the Line calendar series. The images I have on the site are from my own personal collection of calendars that I have kept through the years. I have four calendars but because of time restraints, I was only able to post images from only one calendar. In order to digitize the images I had to scan the calendar on a photocopier and because of the size of the scanner, I had to scan each image about four times to get everything. From there I Photoshopped the images together, though I now notice a few errors in my Photoshops. After that I posted them in the Pages of the website and made them fit in with the website.
The site was my final project for the class and well, it’s not as polished as I would like it to be. But it did teach me a great deal about WordPress, copyright laws, editing images, and website management/design. All skills that can be quite useful for my Major. It was quite a bit of work just to get everything posted, edited, and organized in the website. Which is why I’m a little uncertain right at the moment for the site.
The site is kinda in limbo right at the moment because I’m not sure if I want to add stuff to it and continue to work on it. The site doesn’t get much traffic and my Photoshop skills are amateurish and don’t give the proper respect to the images that I want to showcase and archive on the site. And with school work, the Guards, my second job and writing articles for the DSU Trojan Times. I’m a little overwhelmed and far too busy to work on the site.
I would like to work on it but I feel that I would need a great deal of assistance in order to make the site worthy of the Star Trek label and the artwork showcased on the site. My ideas for the site would make it worthy of the title and the artwork but I lack the skills to accomplish the task currently, and it may take years for me to get the time to acquire the skills.
So right at the moment the site will be in limbo till I can acquire the skills to work on it or can get some help with the work load.
If you’re interested in the project, comment on this post or send a email to my address on your interest and we can talk about the project.
